COOKIES, USER INFORMATION
On this page, we provide additional information so that, as a user, you can explore different options and take specific actions regarding the behavior of first-party or third-party cookies on your device.
We aim to provide users with additional information to navigate various websites with confidence, ensuring their privacy through different methods:
- Configuring your browser settings.
- Using browser add-ons or plugins that block or accept specific cookies selected by the user.
- Receiving comprehensive information from third parties.
- Following advertising industry initiatives.
- Using private browsing modes available in web browsers.
- THE DO NOT TRACK (DNT): DON'T TRACK ME.
“Do Not Track” is a technology and policy proposal that allows users to opt out of being tracked by the websites they visit (http://donottrack.us/ Do Not Track. Universal Web Tracking Opt-Out).
This option has not been implemented by all browsers. In fact, Google Chrome, Safari (only in version 5.1 or later for Mac OS 10.7 systems), and Internet Explorer 8 have not implemented it.
For Internet Explorer 9, it must be activated using a command, as it is not natively included in the browser’s settings.
At this link http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/Browser/DoNotTrack/Default.html (in English), you can find instructions on how to enable it, and a window like the one shown below will appear.
For Firefox 17, in the “Options” menu under “Privacy,” the first option displayed is “Tell websites I do not want to be tracked,” as shown in the following image.
- USE OF PLUGINS
However, browser settings are not the only option to avoid being tracked. The use of plugins or extensions can also serve this purpose. The “Do Not Track Me” extension (http://www.abine.com/dntdetail.php) effectively performs this function. It is compatible with Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari.
Through its settings, users can temporarily pause its use, see which websites the extension is blocking, or allow tracking on a specific website.
- COMPLEMENTARY INFORMATION. LINKS TO THIRD PARTY WEBSITES.
In the field of data protection, the duty of information has proven to be an essential element in guaranteeing citizens’ rights. So much so that the only valid consent is prior, free, specific, but above all, informed consent.
It is the availability of information that ensures users can make a conscious and free decision when giving their consent or, alternatively, refusing the installation of cookies on their device. Providing additional information by linking to a third-party website can enhance user trust by increasing transparency regarding the potential uses of cookies.
This objective can be achieved by linking to external websites where users can obtain information about what a cookie is, the different types of cookies, third-party cookies, and how to manage them:

- THE INITIATIVE OF THE ADVERTISING INDUSTRY. “YOURON LINE CHOICES” (YOURON LINE CHOICES).
The online advertising industry has launched an initiative to inform users about behavioral advertising through the website “Your Online Choices,” a guide to behavior-based advertising: http://www.youronlinechoices.com/
On this website, you will find information about how behavior-based advertising works, details about cookies, and the steps you can take to protect your privacy online.
This website consists of five sections:
- About behavior-based advertising
- Preferences
- Five key tips
- Frequently Asked Questions
- Glossary
Regarding preferences, as long as the browser allows it, the website displays a list of companies participating in this initiative and enables users to choose whether they allow tracking or not.
The user can opt to allow tracking by all the companies listed, block tracking from all of them, or individually select which companies are allowed to track their activity.
If the user chooses to block either all or some of the companies, an opt-out cookie will be installed on their device, as illustrated in the following image (taken from Firefox 17).
Choosing to block behavioral advertising services does not mean that you will stop receiving ads on the Internet. However, the display ads you see on websites will no longer be tailored to your interests based on the preferences set in your browser. Disabling behavioral advertising will not affect other services that use the same technology (cookies), such as email, shopping cart preferences, or photo hosting services. Websites you visit may still collect information for other purposes.
- THE PRIVATE BROWSING OPTION OF BROWSERS.
Another good option for users, when used appropriately and with a clear understanding of its features, is to browse using the “private” mode, which has different names depending on the browser, as shown below:
- Google Chrome: Incognito Window
- Firefox: Private Browsing
- Internet Explorer: InPrivate
- Opera: Private Tab
- Safari: Private Browsing
Let’s explore the information each browser provides about what private or incognito browsing means.
- Chrome: If you want to browse discreetly, you can use Google Chrome’s incognito mode. Here’s how it works:
- When browsing in this mode, the websites you visit and the files you download will not be saved in your browsing or download history.
- New cookies are deleted when you close all open incognito windows.
- However, changes made to bookmarks and general settings during incognito mode will be saved.
- Firefox: Private Browsing allows you to view websites without saving cookies, temporary files, or history of the pages you visit.
Private Browsing does not make you anonymous on the Internet. Your internet service provider, employer, or the websites themselves can still track the pages you visit. Similarly, Private Browsing does not protect you from keyloggers or spyware that may be installed on your device.
- Internet Explorer: InPrivate Browsing prevents Internet Explorer from storing data about your browsing session, including cookies, temporary internet files, history, and other data. Toolbars and extensions are disabled by default.
- Opera: To browse without leaving traces of the websites you visit, you can use a private tab or window. This is especially useful if you are using someone else’s computer or planning a surprise that you want to keep secret. When a private tab is closed, the following data is deleted: browsing history, cached items, cookies, and logins.
- Safari: If you only want to delete specific cookies, click on Preferences in the Safari menu, select the Security tab, and then click on Show Cookies. You can select and delete the cookies you choose from the displayed list. Be careful: if you browse frequently, this list could be very, very long.
